Some merchants pre-authorize transactions at higher or lower amounts to test a card’s validity. For example, a $25.00 gas purchase might temporarily show in your account transaction history as a pending purchase of $126. Pre-authorizations are common at gas pumps, hotels and car rental companies. The actual amount withdrawn from your account will be the correct amount, and the pending transaction will disappear.
